Card
Instrument required to organize a collection, do inventory and write the indexes of the files stored within an archive.
Card index
Organizational instrument used as search tool in the current archive. It is composed by movable cards in which the items of the archive are organized in alphabetical order. The heading and the card index have the same functions, the only difference is the way those functions are implemented.
Circumscription
The administrative district in which a province was subdivided until 1927. The documents drafted by the competent recruitment offices identify the administrative circumscription of the prefectures or sub-prefectures. It can also be understood as a neighboring territory of a city or a town.
Collaterals
Any person who descends from a common forefather, except for the direct descendants.
Collection
Set of documents of various kinds issued by a court, an office, a family or other public or private subjects during the course of their business. Within a State Archive, or any institute dedicated to the storage of files, the term identifies a unitary set of files (see Archive, meaning 1)
Comparative table
List in which the old archival signatures are compared with the new ones after a reorganization or new conditioning of the fund.
Conditioning
Replacement of old paper containers with new containers, or insertion into new containers of archival units tied with strings, and, in any case, without wrapping.
Consanguinity
Natural bond that links the persons whom descend from a common forefather.
Count
The calculation of the degree of kinship or affinity.
Curator
Private or public individual or institution that preserves and makes available for consultation the collections of an archive.
Current archive
Set of cases in progress kept at the offices and used mainly for practical and administrative purposes.
