Faith
Statement, certificate (baptism certificate, marriage certificate, etc) taken from the original act and stored in a Parish archive.
Family
Persons that descend from a common forefather.
Family tree
It’s a picture that summarizes the proof of nobility requested by the chivalry military orders and for certain noble groups that requested this kind of proof. It generally required the candidate to provide evidence that 8 or 16 ancestors, up to his great-grandparents and his great-great-grandparents were noble.
Fascicle
Archival unit formed by documents relating to a particular issue, place in chronological order in a temporary paper cover. The fascicle constitutes the most basic and indivisible unit of an archive, while the envelope, which contains several files, is considered a unit only for the purposes of material conservation. Sometimes the fascicle includes documents relating to different matters or general matters. It can be divided into sub-folders and inserts. If the organization of the archive does not follow systematic criteria, it is common to find together diverse miscellaneous fascicles.
Forefather
It’s the person from whom a family descends; synonym of progenitor, there is a distinction to be drawn between the documented forefather –the oldest ancestor attested by documents- and the historical forefather –the oldest ancestor of whom we know the name-.
