De cognominum origine. When and why surnames were born in the Italian tradition.
From L.A. Muratori’s Dissertation 42 to the documentary evidence in the sources of the State Archive of Modena and of the Municipal Historical Archive of Modena

Presentation of the didactic project developed by class 2C of the Liceo Muratori-San Carlo of Modena, coordinated by Prof. Marta Soli and the archivist Riccardo Pallotti. Two exceptional diplomas of Charlemagne and Matilda of Canossa, kept in the State Archives of Modena and the “Liber Magne Masse populi civitatis Mutine”, kept in the Municipal Historical Archive of Modena, were studied, which is also exceptional evidence of the crystallisation of surnames in the Modena area since the beginning of the 14th century. This will be followed by the presentation of the family tree of a student from class 2C, based on information obtained from the Ancestry Portal, and the family tree of Lodovico Antonio Muratori. In conclusion, the 10 most common surnames in Italy, in Emilia and in Modena will be illustrated.

From the Apennines to the Andes: genealogy and events in the family of the Counts Sabbatini of Modena
Starting from the documents kept in the private Sabbatini archive, the research carried out by Tiziana Maria Osio to reconstruct the family tree will be illustrated.
From Fanano, in the Modena Apennines, and before that from Bologna, to Latin America, not exactly in the Andes but in the heart of the Amazon forest, or rather in the rubber plantations at the end of the 19th century on the border with Bolivia and Paraguay, at the height of the rubber trade boom, to end up in the Amazonas theatre in Manaus, at the time of Caruso and Beniamino Gigli.
